Unless we are talking pukka vintage ones, cars are meant to be driven not wrapped up in cotton wool in a garage.

Hit the nail on the head.

Tried explaining nicely too the Bloke but no I was still wrong.

It was a Triumph TR6 that he's got.
I said I don't care its still needs too be used I asked if he drained the oil and coolant?

He kept repeating what I was saying pretending that he didn't hear that.
He's going too end up with some problems

Serves the arrogant beep right.

Most of you probably know my car by now, but for those that don't, a few pics:

She's polished half to death, and maintained regardless of cost.

Here's another pic:

Loaded up with rubbish to take to the local tip .

I take a great pride in my Baby, but I agree with all the comments here. Cars should be driven and used as intended. Where's the satisfaction in having a show car that's never driven? Anyone can do that provided they have the funds. Besides, if she never got dirty I'd have no excuse to play with the pressure washer and snow foam.

I've seen from his posts how much work Lordy has put into his Probe (that just sounds wrong, by the way) and yes, maybe it will get damaged at some point driving it on open roads, but I'll bet my house he gets more enjoyment from it than the bloke who keeps his in the garage for 3 years.

I know not everyone is into detailing their cars, but for those of us that are, we need to remember why the car was built in the first place .

No, what it means is it costs £1.57 per mile to run

On the other hand, I've covered about 28000 miles in the other ones

It does look nice, and is available as a backup car in the case of the others becoming defunct.

Please accept my most sincere, humble & grovelling apologies if I have caused you to take offence. You can have the gate as well, save me cutting it up

On a serious point though, having more than one car for some is almost a given these days, even if one is only a back up. The bits that get my goat are those that as Paul says bang on about it Mileage - Blah, Shiny - Blah, Not out in the rain - Blah & even have them stood on carpet in the garage.

A friend of mine is Marketing Manager for The Coventry Transport Museum & tells me they regularly take their vehicles out for a run to keep them ticking over, not Thrust I hasten to add.

Use your cars is it not what they were made for

Regards

Paul

The amount of time and effort needed to maintain this standard is amazing
Just out of interest, what have you done to the door wiring rubber protection tubing thingy to get that look? Is it a polish or painted? It looks almost metallic

Yours is the epitome of what cars should be, yes it's sunblindingly shiny but you use it. Just wish I had the skill & patience to do that.

All it needs is a lacquer stripped & French polished dash to finish it off

Not using a car is like having a convertible with the summer we've had & not having the roof down

Regards

Probably not as much as you'd imagine in all honesty. Yes, it took me a good long while to get her there (I've owned her for 12 years now), but once she's protected with waxes, sealants etc, maintenance is not too bad, just has to be fairly regular. I will concede though, it does help if you actually enjoy all the cleaning and polishing.

Need to be careful with that stuff. I used to drive a taxi and the owner had a brainwave to use it on the rubber floor mats. Looked lovely but heels kept slipping on the mat, couldn't drive the thing! Had to throw the mat in the boot.
