I think close with the megane, but I think it's even earlier. Tbh that looks to me as a 1.6 8v version of the Renault 19 "energy" engine that went on to become the Megane here in UK.
Could explain why its rotted even more since they where about from 1988 here?

The 1.6e 8v was fitted to the Megane also, but it could be a 19 also of course. The C pillar on it was a little more substantial compared to the Megane (the hatch at least, not sure if the coupé was fitted with the 8v).

Definitely a Renault engine as already said (shallow oil filter).
No matter what it is, it needs a couple of front springs! |

Thanks guys, whichever it is (and I think it might well have been there long enough to be a 19 or whatever), that's good enough for me

What interests me is there no sign of any pipes or rubber anywhere. I'd say its been burnt out and that's why it looks so bad. Carnmoney Hill was a popular spot for dumping cars for years.

it has been burned out, hence the lack of metal too for such a relatively young car. The telltale is the collapsed springs - living in the Donegall Road at the height of the Drumcree situation taught me that lol (at least three cars per night for two weeks at the end of Rockview Street alone!)
