I've just picked up a 2nd hand intake with a view to doing a mod of some form, but I'm having trouble removing the three bolts at the front that fasten it to the slam panel.Any tips on getting these out or am I just shaping wooden? Mine just seem to go round and round...

when I came to undo them all 3 had seized. After a soaking in PlusGas one came off. For the others I used an angle grinder. If you do so be careful about touching the panel they bolt through. The smaller the grinding wheel the better - about 50mm diameter ideally. Regards, Kearton |

Best thing is to use a Dremel type tool with a diamond wheel. Total control and is very quick.

I just forced Mole grips under the slam panel to grip the nuts, which are moulded into the rubber, But then I'd done Mk2 mod so I wasn't bothered about damaging the intake plastic/rubber, i just wanted it out..........

Intake mod
I'm interested in the air intake mod, I can't see what this would benefit? Surely the whole point of the scoop is to act as the ram effect, whilst driving forward the air is scooped and forced through into the airfilter to help the turbo, I read this with interest as my cdt has been remapped and I'm considering one of Rons Synergy boxes

once you take the air duct off you will see, the opening seems very restricted.
By cutting off as in the picture you will still get the same air flow from the grill aimed at the inlet but it can also take extra air in. |
