1.8 turbo, won't start, just beeps when I put the key in.

Well this is a new one on me, went to the shops car running fine, pulled up outside parked up switched off, dropped off my stuff, went back to the car 2 mins later and it would not turn over, just beeps, like an alarm type beep. All lights come the dash, so power there but won't start.
Any ideas ?

Flat battery in the car or failed key fob battery ? Have you tried a spare key to see if it works.

Main battery nearly new Varta so should be okay but will double check. Will try a new battery in the key fob, it's not had one in for a long time.

Brilliant !

One new cell battery in the key fob fitted and problem solved, turbo now safely in the drive, I don't want this one vandalising too !

Pack of two new batteries in the cubbyhole between the front seats, ready for next time ! Won't be caught out again !

Thanks again for the suggestion! Did not want to leave it out on the street, so well happy !

Must be a fluke mate - the key fob battery has nothing to do with inhibiting starting the car, that is the separate chip inside the key fob's job.

Meaning that there's another reason for your non-starter and it may (almost certainly will ) occur again given the right circumstances. It needs further investigation.

Surely if the battery has given up the ghost, then it will not have enough electric to operate the transponder?

Hi Dave,

You've obviously never had reason to open one of your key cases!

The transponder is a remarkable thing. It is a sealed rectangular box with no external wired connections, yet it apparently can transmit data to the ignition switch barrel and even record the vehicle's mileage!

Bit of a tangent, but transponders are an interesting bit of kit. The chip in the key receives its power via a pulse emitted from the ignition barrel apparently: https://advanced-keys.co.uk/index.ph...cle&news_id=20

As mentioned, the locking and unlocking of the car is totally separate from the immobilisation.
Don't take my word for it - lock the car on the fob, take out the fob battery, open the car with the key and start it.

Fob battery back in and remove the transponder in the back of the key casing and try and start it again, and again, and again.....
