The last couple of months has been a bit of a roller coaster. I’m still having a little back pain and left shoulder pain but gradually through physio I’m on the mend.
We’ve been looking, well maybe I should say the missus has been looking for a replacement to the XF.
After driving a BMW 520 Msport supplied by the insurance company I discounted it as the ride was so harsh my back was sore within one mile of driving it.
We were then given a Volvo V90 R design which I really liked.
However after reaching a settlement on the XF we started more serious in our search.
We were actually looking at other XF’s but with the recent Main Dealer problems and Jaguar’s dalliance they were now out of the equation.
Now looking at Mercedes we had settled on the CLS shooting brake and after a test drive in a 14 plate model we were almost ready to buy until we discovered the car didn’t have Sat Nav or heated seats, strange on a car of this calibre.

At this point we were offered an ex demonstrator 17 plate with less than 1000 miles at a very good discount. The car actually out on loan but was pulled back in the following day for us to have an extended test drive.
So the end result we have taken the plunge and pick the car up on Friday.

It’s a 220 AMG Premium model in Osidian Black Metalic with lovely cream leather and comes fully loaded with extras which includes a sunroof, something I’ve teally missed in recent years and has self parking plus loads more.

This will be my first venture into a non British car in my 50 years of driving but I’m looking forward to it already. Our two boys are already queuing up to be the next owners ( steady on boys) I’ve told them I am learning to Ski, that’s “ Spend Kids Inheritance “

After losing my father-in-law then both my brothers-in-law within the last two years then last week I lost my elder brother I’ve decided to make the best of life while it lasts.

Sorry to hear of your saga - however glad you are on the mend and hope you enjoy your new wheels.

Hopefully you'll be keeping some of the rest of your fleet listed in your profile - for sunny days maybe?

We had our nearside on our Volvo 850R taken out by a central barrier in Spain when we were blown sideways onto it coming out of a tunnel. Very sudden and alarming. BUT although the car was eventually scrapped we came out of it unhurt and it was still driveable, even. If the car saves you injury and so on, then it's done its job. The car was replaced - the main thing is personal safety. Good luck with the next car, basically!

Too right! You can spend your whole life building bigger barns and lose sight of whats really important and not enjoy what's all around you.

As I keep telling my dear old mum when she phones to to ask my opinion on buying something...you life, your money. As long as you can pay the bills, feed and clothe yourself the rest is to spend on whatever you want whenever you want.

Enjoy your new car! I'm not jealous...well, not much.
