It's a shame your old car club was a disappointment. However, your new car club is guaranteed to be better!

I know there is a 'click' of about 20 people who all stick together like glue.

It was even more highlighted at the Hotel for lunch when I was put on a table with people who I didn't know but who are not part of this group, for me it was really noticeable.
We all had a great time on our table, me getting told off for dropping food down my T-shirt even though I had napkin tucked in.
So I did meet some really nice people who I got on with and they didn't give a stuff about my car, even asked why I wasn't included in the photo, but they didn't get an answer, I was standing there at the time.

I suppose what might have gone against me was when I said to the Chairman of the Club that his Morris 8 would go a lot better with a decent Straight 6 in it, I just got a look for that one.......lol

I just think it's a shame that people have to be like this.

Car clubs are magnets for a lot of douche bags.
People that have, what J K Rowling would call, a deatheater persona.

By that I mean, a supremacist, 'pure blood' mentality that is completely backwards. Unnecessarily hostile.

I don't react well to that. I detest bullies.

On a positive note though...

I've recently joined the MG-Rover South East page on Facebook (the Halfway House crew) and they seem like a right decent bunch.
They don't mind me bringing an off-road prepped Land Rover 90 down to Sundays meet

Car clubs have to be carefull where they draw the line between being proud of your car, or using it as an ego booster. I.E. buying a low mileage car and touting it all over the country to show it off. That's not what car clubs should be about innit..

In this club we have loads of well used even high mileage cars, but their owners all come to meetings to chat, exchange info, and to socialize. friendship is what it should be about. A friend is priceless...

"I do hope the Triumph club in question wasn't the TSSC, I would be most disappointed being an ex-member myself as well as my father who was one of the really early members (20 or something, I can't recall exactly) and having been to many club dos and meets from the age of 13 - 30. Sadly I had to let my Herald (Dolomite 1500 engine with twin SU) go due to financial pressure (no money). Couldn't afford to get another road worthy one now! __________________" Avulon

Club Triumph and TSSC, of which I was a member of both, were absolutely great. Can't speak highly enough of them. My main problem was at shows. Full of experts who can tell what diff ratio was used between 1972-1975 on a blah blah etc. I just got tired of being scolded by them for fitting a part not from that model and having to justify myself constantly. It sounds petty but, after a while, it begins to infuriate. Also, I once sold a car I built from scratch (Dolomite Sprint) and the guy who bought it touted it as being built by himself, eventually being caught out since I sign and date every car I build in a secret place. I've even donated parts to people who, after I heard their sob story, took no cash and just gave them away to find the items on eBay the day after for lots of money. Yes, it's up to them what they do with it but it's bad form in my book. Things like that just annoy me.

Clearly, not everybody involved with classic cars is bad, the vast majority being good folks, but I've met my fair share of 'slappables' and my age-related tolerance of others' folly is depleting. I am rapidly becoming a fully paid-up misanthropist. And don't get me started about my stint with Triumph Stags - that's the closest I came to hurting someone physically.

Model aircraft? Same thing - chock full of gits. (apologies to non-gits)
Motorcycling? Put an accountant in full leathers and he becomes drunk on idiocy. I now ride alone and love it.
Guitarists? It's a constant pee-ing contest. Gets tiring.
HiFi? Lord knows, they love a debate. Get into valve gear and the heated debate/slagging rises expontially.
Wine and foodies? - we're entering another realm of divisiveness entirely.

Clearly, generalisations but it's just my own personal experience.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread.

Totally agree with James, this club is about the cars and the owners. No matter the condition of your car someone will always try to help.
