It's a Factory upgrade ECU remap from 116 BHP for older cars (difficult to go by Facelift/ MK1 as both body shapes were issued from the Factory with 116 0r 131 BHP during an overlap period circa 2003/4)
It was generally thought that CDT's were 116 & CDTi's were 131 BHP but many owners have disproved this. My opinion is that there are 1000's of owners out there that don't know this upgrade exists. The body weight of these cars needs 131 BHP IMO and is a very worthwhile upgrade.

That's just the issue Rob
Many insurance companies don't differentiate/load premiums between a factory 116 and a 131 BHP It's an "invisible" difference between 2 Standard Cars that were on sale in MGR showrooms. The only difference was the date of issue and even that cannot be pinned down to a definite time. Members have proved the CDT or CDTi on the Reg document doesn't always mean the Power output which is what insurance companies data bases are going by. You may not need to be "under the radar" so to speak to have an upgrade but by all means tell your insurance and let us all know the outcome. There's plenty of other threads on this same subject.

for the sake of £200 + a t4 session, would you not be cheaper to get an indi to remap for the performance you are looking for, most offer 150 bhp certified for even the 116 model. this works out less than £250 from what i have seen

no, i bought mg zt v5 shows 116, thought it was ok, got a synergy- big difference- drove a standard cdt rover 75 and felt it was as slow as, so believe my zt to be a 135
|

Hi all - first post so hello!
Just aquired a CDT with 154k miles on (although you'd never think it). Is the 116 model and have been looking at either the xpart upgrade to keep things all OEM and proper or Rover Ron's Synergy box. What route would most go down? Do you "upgrade" the xpart kit yourself, and if so, how? |

Hi Savvy and welcome.
The X-power upgrade has to be applied with a T4 either by an X-part centre or other specialist who has these facilities. If I could have only one either the Synergy or the upgrade, then the Synergy gives the best value for the increase in power with the additional benefit of the mafam which will help if your Maf goes out of spec. I'm greedy I have both. power output is now approx 155bhp with bags of torque. If you want to keep things original then the upgrade is the one to go for. Russ

Hi Russ - thanks.
Both would be ideal (but currently trying to source some meteor wheels as well!). Car has just had a new maf and fancy something where I don't have to press buttons for settings etc. Do xpart charge much to fit or is that part of the price you purchase it? |

And the other question from me Russ is:
After the unlock codes have been loaded in, will subsequent service T4 sessions wipe the re map or not, as there's various rumours about that. Also the Xpart upgrade is a ONCE only executable programme, even to the original purchaser, yes?
