Has anyone bought the boot struts from sgs, how are they compared to the originals?

Hi Dave. Yes. I bought the full set, boot and bonnet. How are they? Put it this way, they are so good you have to force the lids open. Not a bat in hells chance of them coming down on your head, even in a very high wind. They also do a refill service of old struts. Not sure if they can do ours. But with the wear on the strut arms, it’s probably not worth it. You could always ask.

Cheers Dave, I've changed my bonnet struts for the sgs ones and theyre great, the boot will just fall down and slam shut, no resistance at all ever from them, guess I'll have to order some now then.

I was lucky when I needed new struts for the front grille on my bus there was a place locally to me who were able to make me a couple. I had one original, but needed a pair to stop the grille falling on my head. I used an on line calculator to establish what force I needed but they were also able to test my good one and we came to around the same figure, around 350N if I remember.

Think the struts on my ZT are bit weak as the bonnet does tend to drop a bit if it's windy so might look at a couple of new one - probably then realise how bad the old ones were.

I fitted a new pair to my 75 this afternoon using the ones from the SGS link - very quick and easy job. I had been using a length of wood as a bonnet prop but it had occurred to me how easily the bonnet could do a large amount of damage to someone if it came down at the wrong time. The new struts seem excellent so far, but I think it'll take a while until I entirely trust them!
