Default Private registration purchase

I have just put a private plate on my 60 year old P4 using N N no problem at all very good company, sent my log book of to them and received a new log book from Swansea with the new number on, on my old log book it stated that the old number was not transferable so I can not sell my old plates they after stay with the car and if I ever sell my private plates I have to put the old pates back on the car,

i am shortly to break my ZT Cdti (54 plate) which was taken off the road in December 2016 with slave cylinder issues again. Rather than fix (again) simply laid it aside for use as a donor car for its replacment -= another ZT Cdti.

It obviously has no MOt having ben sorned from eed of Decembner 2016 - can the number be tyransferred to another car or does it have to have a current MOT?

Thanks and regards
Steve

I transferred my private plate from my Saab which had been on SORN for the last 3 years with no problems.

I seem to recall that if a vehicle had been off the road for over 5 years a transfer was not possible. Think that is to stop people trying to sell on plates from vehicles that had been off the road for many years.

As long as the car has been continuously SORNed for less than five years, the plate can be transferred, or put on retention. £80, and available to do instantly on line.

before sorn was introduced, you could do without an MOT, if you brought it to a designated place on a trailer so that its numbers could be verified.

I got a plate for my Birthday (it had a 60 in it). I was surprised how easy the paperwork was. Transferring the Certificate of Entitlement to the car took about three minutes online and changing the insurance over via the Sheila's Wheels website was even faster - and free!
I've kept the old plates as the original number is likely to be reallocated should I ever take the new one off.

Default All done

Hi all,
Just a little update...sent my V5 in, the seller had already sent their documents in...a phone call from the registration company and it was all done. Email confirmation from DVLA that I could use the new purchased registration, minutes later.
I received the new V5 today and the new number plates from Matt Dickins.🙂👍

Thanks 👍
