Default Why is photobucket such a pain ?

I am trying to write up a 'how-to', but am finding Photobucket a complete pain to use. Upload of photos is painfully slow, and then sometimes they do not seem to load at all - it will take me longer to upload the photos for this 'how to' than it took me to do the work !

I have checked the troubleshoot page on Photobucket website - I am uploading compatible file types, and I have the latest version of IE installed. Our broadband speed is not the fastest- about 10MB download and 1 MB upload, so perhaps that does not help.

Anyone else here have similar problems ? I am on the verge of giving up trying to do 'how-to's because there is no easy way to load photos into threads on this forum (not for me anyway !).

I wrote a Photobucket how to here

It was great to use back then, but I agree with you it is now painfully slow, glitchy and causes freezing.
It seems that pop ups and advertising revenue is more important than image hosting for Photobucket, these days.

I am now moving over to Flickr, which is just as easy to use and a breath of fresh air after Photobucket.

I am planning on doing a How to for Flckr.

I ditched them ages ago because of the pages constantly freezing/hanging/timing out.
I went to Imgur & have never had a problem with that site.

......... Also now they have reduced the size of photo's that you can upload, unless you pay and upgrade of course....

I've been using imgur.com for the last couple of months - different, but better!

Is imgur the same procedure as photobucket - as in just a quick copy and paste of the url?

Yes, you just click the drop-down menu at the top-right corner and get posting links, just click the one for forums, (copy) which then you just paste on the forum.

Well, I just tried to put an image from Imgur into a draft thread - it came out all fuzzy, and the picture size was enormous, even after I resized it for forums. What am I doing wrong ?? Perhaps we need a 'how to' for loading images from Imgur onto the forum.

For the 'How-to', I am writing it up as a Word document, and putting in the photobucket codes at the places where I want pictures - can you do the same with Imgur ??

I have just had a look at embedding an image on Imgur, like Mango Man has done, and it looks pretty straight forward.

There is a Youtube tutorial here, which might help people.

OK, I have just tried what the guy on the Youtube video says, and I still get an enormous fuzzy image loaded into the thread when I preview the post. I am not impressed with Imgur so far - I need some more convincing !!

Just signed up to imgur and tried a test post. The preview worked fine for me although I had to choose 'huge thumbnail' from the size selection on imgur as it linked to the full size photo on my first attempt - which was a tad enormous!

The result:
