Default Do you trust your car?

Do you trust your car enough to just jump in and go anywhere in the UK without concern? I went to Cornwall for the week, just jumped in, checked nothing, turned the key and went. I haven't checked the oil for weeks, not had the rad cap off either. I had no issues. The car has now done 165k (60k in my ownership) and I feel I can trust it not to break down. In the 3-4 yrs I've had it I've replaced the master, slave and the crank pulley. I'm feeling that once those items are sorted, the CDT is a very reliable car indeed.

I wouldn't think twice about jumping in any of our cars and going anywhere. That's what the AA's for plus I trust my other half and his trusty tool kit.

I trusted my diesel saloon fully in the first year of ownership then went through a phase for several months where things went wrong and was almost scared driving it. But, now all the issues have been sorted and the car drives fantastically well and has done for some time (touch wood) and have regained that trust so I would be happy enough to just jump in and drive anywhere in the country. Having just made three trips down south in the last few weeks and it hasn't missed a beat.

Don't rule out the springs if not been replaced especially the front ones yep I would travel anywhere in any of mine apart from city centers so they can stick there clean air charge

yep - sure do.. I do regular trips from scotland down into all parts of england in all of our 75's.. I use the diesels more than the V6's I might add..

but yeh - fully trust them to get me everywhere..

and it also turns out that our diesel tourer had a broken spring for a while, which I only noticed at the eden camp show last month.. so it had done hundreds of miles like that.. mind you, I think the spring/tyre protector did its job holding the spring in place..

Just shows what fab cars we have..

Yep, I trust my two.
If I didn't, I wouldn't have them.
Work is 200 mile round trip, (which I don't do every day), but usually clock up 500 miles per week.
Couldn't be doing that if I didn't trust them.
That said, I liked to have the 2nd car, for times when no. 1 has to be serviced. I would get anxious if the job couldn't be completed in just 1 day.
At times like that, it's useful to have no. 2 to fall back on.

100%, if I didn't trust any car I would either sell it or fix it so I did. No point in having a car you don't have 100% faith in or what is the point in having it?

As cars get older they by there very nature will become less reliable but as responsible owners we should be diligent and be on the look out for potential problems. Personally I jack my cars up once a month or so and give the suspension a look over and check for any potential problems. This also spreads out the cost of keeping them on the road, replace break pads as they are getting low rather than at the next service saves both money and potential problems.

At any time in my view your main car should be ready for a 1000 miles, say one of your children, a relative or good friend is rushed into hospital at the other end of the country and you have to be there for them, not a lot of good if your car needs new tyres and brakes or it conks out after it hits a pot hole. If you only have one car you should trust it 100% or it is time to get rid or be willing to spend the money to get it to that state.

Yes I trust both my cars to go the length of the country if necessary but I would always check levels & tyre pressures first.

BTW those rear springs can run for years. I had a broken rear spring which went unnoticed for three MOT's. They break approx 2" from the end of the coil for some reason. You could never tell until you get the wheel off and look right down into the rear arm which cups the spring.

Now if the question was do you trust your Dealer, well that's a no.
