Default FedEx - Useless or am I just unlucky?

Ordered a few bits and bobs off the internet, as we do.

Found a "Sorry we missed you" card in our letterbox - 14:15 Tues 03 Nov.

Followed the instructions to go onto the FedEx website to...."choose the most appropriate delivery for your needs..."

All that told me was that it was being delivered on 05 Nov. No way of changing that slot. So, I phoned up the helpline from the phone number on the website - based in Coventry I think as it starts 024 76....

Total waste of time. A recorded message says changes to your delivery can be made quickly and easily by using the web site. Goodbye. .

Thursday 05 Nov comes and goes and no new "Sorry we missed you" card and no delivery either.

Back onto the web site and now, apparently, it's going to be delivered today 09 Nov.

Tried the website every half hour or so since about 8am this morning. All the screen says is that there is a problem. Please try again. If this continues please phone the helpline.

And guess what, the phone number to get it sorted is still just a recorded message saying use the website.

I've got repetitive strain from inputting the tracking number however many times and I've still no idea if/when I'll get my delivery.

Bound to come when I take Quizzie out for her walk.

It only seems to be FedEx. We have no problems with Royal Mail/DPD/Hermes/UPS/Amazon etc.

Someone please tell me it's not just me

While I always found them to be very good, I did have one similar incident - and the same with TNT.
Couldn't find a way to speak to anyone (even via email) and struggled to get it resolved, eventually it was actually the FedEx driver who sorted it!

We've recently moved to DPD as they've promised us these type of incidents shouldn't happen, but we shall see...

A few months back I was expecting a delivery from UPS. They gave a delivery by date but no clue what time so couldn't plan around them. Needed to pop out for ten minutes and, sure enough, on my return I watched them driving away. Through the letter box was a card saying my parcel would be left at post office in the town next to my town. No option of any redelivery. Not even left at post office in my own town!
So basically I had to drive to fetch my parcel that I had paid to have delivered. Unreal.
Had several parcels delivered by DPD and have never managed to fault them.

Our DPD drivers are really good. .

Guide Dogs' puppy food is delivered by them.

No issues with them at all.

TBH I think I've had some sort of issues with pretty much all of the delivery companies.

Tuffnells were delivering a pair of 8ft tall drive way gates, the delivered one, before the tracking said they'd even collected them, and then the other appeared a few days later.

Hermes took nearly a month to deliver a parcel, several emails with a standard unhelpful response, and 40 mins on the phone before I finally got through to someone.

DHL consistently send me a text to say they're delivering my parcel between X and X that day, but always, without fail, the day after they've delivered the parcel!

Royal Mail have lost 2 parcels I've sent so far this year, though both were from a post office I don't use often, so I'm suspicious of that particular office.

Thankfully no one has tried sending me anything using yodel for a while.

I think the only 2 I've not had issues with are UPS and DPD, though DPD did deliver a parcel for a flat numbered 70-something, to our house, number 15 and the other end of the road, and completely different name.

Cool

I had a email from Parcel Force informing me that a parcel would be delivered between 08.09 and 12.09. But at the bottom of the email it said that these times could not be guaranteed. The parcel arrived at 17.15.

Up and till last week Hermes had been pretty good at delivering to me. Again email sent to me telling that the parcel I was expecting would be delivered between 18.00 & 20.00. So I put on my outside light plus my porch light. It was tipping it down, so I listened out for the delivery vehicle. By 20.00 I had heard nothing but I open the outer porch door to find the parcel sitting in the rain.

They had the cheek to send me a message telling me that they had left the parcel in a dry area as there was no one in. Gave up trying to contact them.

You are not the only one, and it's definitely not you.
Fedex drove me crazy on a regular basis. Just recently they seem to have improved, but I suspect I may have a different person doing the deliveries.
DPD seems to be the most consistent, but I do dread trying to call anyone nowadays as you inevitably end up in a feedback loop. The worst I ever had was with BT. I won't elaborate as it's a heck of a shaggy dog story which relives the stress every time I repeat it.

All of these companies seem to vary by area and more importantly the driver. TNT used to be amazing around here and then they switched the depot that distributed around this area from Didcot to Swindon, how different can the same company be? No longer would the driver leave stuff without a signature, stuff would often arrive looking like it has been driven over. With the old depot the drivers had the common sense to deliver stuff next door if I was not in but the new ones would not unless I had filled out the form on the internet even though I didnt know the parcel was coming.

Parcel Force around here seem to get through drivers, we used to have a little spanish guy who was helpful but the latest one will just leave stuff on the drive even if its raining, not a problem normally but the wife had some stuff damaged by the rain.

UPS seem to be good, we get the same driver and have had him for the last 10+ years.

DHL seems to vary between drivers, most are helpful but one seem to be plugged into headphones as he doesnt seem to listed to anything I say.

FedEx drivers are good but there head office is a total mess or it has been since Covid. Most staff that were office based are now working from home and there phone system hangs you up after being on hold for 25 mins if nobody answers.

Something I have found is to register with these companies on the internet, some will then send you an Email saying when they have a parcel for you and when it is due and if you have alternative delivery instructions.

I've shipped a few parcels over the years, my other hobby is amateur radio, and having had differing successes with some if not all of the above I have recently plumped for UPS as my courier of choice!
Touch wood, so far so good with no issues, uplift when they say they will and deliver, unmolested, on time and let's hope it continues.
Of course it's simply a matter of choice, some are better than others and good service seems to be in short supply nowadays!
