Default Deceived

There she was a gleaming white gold example of a Cowley built Connie Se V6. Had done only 57000 miles in all of her 21 years, no water ingress and had her cambelts replaced at 18000 miles. Interior almost in showroom condition and all electrics function as they should. Now in for MOT and WHAM! FAILED! She had deceived me, her rear suspension arms and coil springs and rear exhaust box had failed. These needed to be repaired ASAP, where I live a car is essential and she was my only carrier. I told the mechanic that I would source the parts and have them sent directly to him. The arms were purchased from DMGRS and ordered the full kit. The rear box was purchased on eBay, a Klarius clamshell type for £75 from a seller in the English Midlands, Syed he was called, he asked me to call him to make doubly sure that I had the right part, which I had and he suggested that the rubber type hangers should also be replaced, these I got for a fiver. Within 3 days all parts were in the hands of the mechanic, work was carried out and MOT retested. PASS! and no retest fee. No, I am not a millionaire but she was worth saving. When you consider that buying a new car or even contract hire that would run into thousands this was well worth it. She is now back with me and runs and drives as beautiful as ever. Amen

Sounds like dejavoo! My Cowley V6 also had rusted rear arms and rear box! All now replaced and running well. Enjoy!

I don't think she deceived you; all our cars are getting to an age where the rear suspension arms need replacing. The upper arms on my 2006 were like paper doilies once the two broken springs were removed.

I would honestly be most suprised if many cars are running around on original, rust free rear arms.

I wish more people had this attitude, I see so many cars sent to the crusher for less than this with the argument that is cheaper to get a new car.

It rarely is, yes it might use less fuel but the ongoing costs or lease costs will soon make most people wish they had spent the money getting there old car repaired. This year I have spent nearly a grand on my Van but a new one is nearly £30k leasing one would be £450 a month.

I am not saying we should keep all old cars on the road as they will all reach a point where it is uneconomic to keep pouring money in but people should consider more carefully in my opinion.

Yes Rp, I think I judged her too harshly, obviously she was forgiven in a heart beat.
