for an 18 in wheel it should be 32 front 32 rear ... try out the combo`s and see which one feels better for you ..these pressures are taken from auto data which is normally bang on .well it would, as it was my teacher that did all the auto data stuff amongst other things
Hi Chrissyboy. According to my hand book,15 inch wheels are,32 lbs front, and 30 lbs rear. Having said that, i was told many years ago by a tyre company, that if you don't mind a slightly harder ride, put a couple of pounds in extra, it also makes the tyre last longer.

Ok so where are you all getting your information my handbook clearly states for my Cdti with 215/55 16inch tyres 32psi all round. Ive always been told its not just wheel size that determines pressure but tyre width an profile as well ?

Plus body type/weight of the vehicle / which engine will vary the front preasures at least - A diesel or V6 engine will be close to double the weight of an 1800 unit!!

My handbook says for a MG ZTT CDTI on 225/45/18s its 34psi all round and thats for a derv engine with a possibly loaded back end!!

Speeds above 100mph it says 36 for the front 34 rear (for mine)

Its (normal use 2.5) 30f/28r saloons auto+manual and tourer manuals are 32/32 while autos are 34/34

I actually thought that 38f/36r was in the "your having a laugh" zone but as Im looking at the book I find it is indeed 38f 36r for 2.5 V6 ALL VARIANTS but only above 100mph !!!! ( thats a heck of a jump for the saloons?? but hey these folks made the cars!!)

I ALSO NOTE!!!!!! none of the preasures in the hand book are defined by wheel size!!! BUT ONLY by Engine Size / Body Type / Transmision Type and Expected Speed Range (ie over 100 mph)

Plus there is a small section for high payload which only lists tourers with self leveling suspension

Turning the page reveals some info on preasures for towing!! mine doesnt change!!

Space savers are of course 60psi for any variant!!

IMO?? get/use your hand book and dont take advice from (possibly) poorly trained spoty youths in local cheapo in and out as quick as you can tyre places!! the police and your insurance company wont be listening if the worst happens and incorrect tyre preasures cause an accident!! - its your resposibility to check/maintain them!! - yes a couple of extra psi can save a little fuel!! but it can also shorten the life of your tyre negating the savings AND cause a measurable change in handling and GRIP!!

JMHO!! of course!

Andy

the charts are the right pressures ,if your loading the car well up then add a couple of extra pounds .i wouldnt take much notice of the book ,im not telling you this is my opinion ,alot in books is wrong . if in doubt look on the tyre for the manufacturers recommend tyre pressure

The recommended tyre pressures are tailored to the type of vehicle, not to the wheel size - as above, different body style, engine & transmission makes all the difference.

It is the manufacturers recomended pressures that the police and insurance companies will go by if there is a problem, not a tyre shop's idea that 'it's the same pressure for all wheels that size' I suppose it saves them the bother of looking up the correct pressures for the vehicle though!
