Yes there are those worse off, but that won’t help you, or will it
I have 2 friends who both had cancer. One had it in his tongue and the other in his throat. The one who had it in his tongue, had his tongue removed and half his jaw was cut away. When that healed, a new tongue was made from a leg muscle and transplanted into his mouth. A prosthetic bone replaced his jaw. That was 10 years ago, with the surgery being carried out in Bristol. He speaks with a permanent lisp The other friend had radium needles left in his mouth for a week and the cancer was completely removed with mouth and neck surgery carried out in South Africa. He wears a false beard whenever he goes out, to hide the scarring. Both must have been through the mill, a bit like yourself and to this day, they continue to remain cancer free So, chin up and be lucky! |

When my Father in Law was in hospital one of the things he liked was for me to shave him. I felt a bit odd doing it first time but we settled into a routine and would chat about all sorts.
Neither his wife or daughter could do it “right” - so it fell to me. It must be difficult right now if you can’t shave - I suggest you try a bit of emollient cream rubbed into the skin of the beard area - if this is allowed? - as this lubricates and softens the bristles of your beard so it doesn’t scratch and irritate so much. Do check this is allowed tho’! |

My partner has been through a horrendous time with cancer and has now fibromyalgia but is continually cheery despite being in pain 24/7. She has came down with sepsis recently just to add to the pain she endures then came down with the dreaded lurgy just to add to things and still she never moans and is cheery. She’s just fun loving, kind and always thinks of others. I’ve not mentioned everything she endures, you feeling better now ? There’s always someone worse off but at least you look like you’ve got the right attitude to things too so wishing you well

Hi Nige.
I'm sorry to hear this. I had suspicions that you'd not been at your best but I didn't realise how bad your problems were. Yes we do need to vent off at times and being fair I have vented off at times here and for reasons that I may not want to upset family, OK that sounds selfish to inflict it on the good folk here but in the main I have found the people here are compassionate and understanding, only a few get it up their humph and dislike some comments, their loss to be honest! I'll say this to you as a positive. Anne's brother Tommy has had three facial cancers removed last year and a particularly bad patch on his forehead, he had been silly and left them for years, he had a bad car accident 35 years ago which left him with brain damage and he tends to leave things. I will say that after a couple of months he was considerably better and now nearly a year later he is right as rain. The healing process takes time but the end result has been marvellous. You Nige will gradually return to normality and you'll be glad you got it done. Look after yourself and your more than welcome to have a blow out here
