Bolt on exhaust silencers, does anyone have experience with these?
Me again, sorry about that.
One of the previous owners of my ZT fitted a rather large 3.5" stainless exhaust system and it's unbearable at anything below 3k. I was wondering if anyone had experience with bolt on bungs/inserts to reduce the noise, I've seen some inexpensive ones around on eBay and I don't mind paying for a good one if it will be effective. Any recommendations or advice very much welcome, thanks |

Performance doesn't bother me that much as I really doubt I'm making anywhere near the 190 when it left the factory. Interestingly I had a dyno printout at 150k that said it made 180, but since then I've wiped the remap and it's had a fair few miles since |

If by 'stock' you mean OEM, then it would be a bolt-on like any other. The factory-fitted one piece system doesn't come as a spare. It comes in bolt-on sections. As I understand it, Bosal supplied the OEM silencers. TC |

I had a straight thru exhaust on a diesel discovery and it was loud so I cut out a section in the straight pipe and put in a bolt on silencer and it worked perfectly.
This is the company i got mine from and they make custom items as well. MIJExhaustl

I may have caused confusion, by bolt on silencer I mean things that go on the end of the tailpipe

I'd file those with the snake oil myself, but if you want to spend £20 to see if it works, why not. It is throttling down the exhaust though and I'd be very surprised if it makes a sporty SS box sound like the Rover OEM. If it did, we'd all have them by now.

so, we are encouraged to spend fortunes on smooth bore, rolled, seamless stainless steel custom made exhausts in order to improve gas flow, get maximum performance etc. etc. etc... then you want to do the technical equivalent of shoving a king Edward up the tail pipe....
highly refined snake oil, purified through an unobtainium filter
