Default 260 Clutch Gone - Urgent Plea For Help

Hi Folks,

wander if anybody out there can help me..my clutch has gone on my 260 ZT-T after just 39k.

I understand the gearbox and engine block has to come out to get at it.

Can anyone recommend a mechanic/garage who genuinely knows what he is doing please.

Any ideas would be truly appreciated.

Many thanks

Rich

Thanks again!

well of course there are not so many people working on MG's nowadays so did not wish to narrow my options! I am just inside the M25 north of Reigate.

PM scooter (runs Dreadnought garage in Scotland)

He is not often here but does pop in occasionally
He will let you know exactly what does and does not need to be removed to get at the clutch and can probably recommend some one he knows that is a bit closer to you. other than that Andy and co as mentioned above will do a good job for you.

Many thanks Keith...will phone around. I just got a price of £940 incl VAT from EMG in Epsom which is less than half the price of Pinewood in Coulsdon - both ex MGR. American Auto parts in Redhill quoted £881.00 incl VAT but such a small saving and they are not MG Mustang engined specialists.

I would add that although Pinewood are very expensive I have always had a very good service from them..not surprising some might say!!

MGR-Service....very helpful chap David is but he quoted almost same as EMG and he is farther away with no courtesy car. Might try him again in future. thanks to all, think I am sorted now.

I am just trying to find a thread on two sixties
There is I believe an access panel where you may be able to see what the problem is

I assume the pedal has gone to the floor I trust the master is topped up and not leaking.

Found it, no pictures though!

"On test driving may car the clutch juddered.
The dealer replaced the whole of the clutch, slave and master cylinder.
I found it still 'stiff' and finally after the car was not used over Christmas it was stiff and made screeching noise.

In desperation I opened up the fabric covering the bell housing to find quite a large inspection plate. This was removed and I found that the clutch splines were making the noise in contact with the thrust bearing/slave cylinder (it is a combined part).

A carefull spray with some silicone based lubricant has transformed the clutch pedal and made it so much smoother and better than it has ever been."

What precisely are the symptoms?
Do you have any fluid leaks from bell housing or under car/into car - ie is the master or slave cylinder leaking?
My clutch pedal went very sloppy a few months back - could not engage gears unless I stamped on the pedal multiple times...
A couple of us have suffered this - it's the master cylinder not allowing the relief hole opening (and I guess drawing in air) because of some swollen seals. I had a new master under warranty - it was a £285 job - all cured now. Unless you need a new slave..there will be no reason to get into the bell housing - I cannot believe your clutch would be worn after 39k too.
