Brian solved this problem by (presumably) breaking the pins, then removing the clips, cleaning everything very thoroughly, and sticking aluminium tape over the holes. Finally the clips (now minus the redundant pins) were glued in place to the bodywork with Araldite. You could try Captain Tolley’s Creeping Crack Cure – it stopped mine leaking for 3-4 years, but now it’s back
