Default 2003 1.8T - where is the thermostat?

Just after a bit of clarity here. The Haynes manual tells me that it is located on the top right of the engine, at the back of the head. However I've read elsewhere that on the 1.8T it's in a plastic housing at the bottom of the rad. Can someone confirm? Thanks.

Early models had the thermostat on the engine itself. I have a 2003 1.8T as well, the thermostat is a PRT (Pressure Relief Thermostat) type located at the bottom of the radiator.

Ignore Mr Haynes, you have a prt fitted, it’s down the bottom of the radiator connected to three hoses.

The simplest way to tell is to look at the upper coolant hose that comes from the right end of the head and goes along the top of the radiator and enters it top left. The PRT system has a large T-piece in the midlle of that hose. The other leg of the T drops vertically down behind the radiator. This goes to the PRT housing fastened towards the lower radiator right side as seen in my previous photo. Many PRT owners replace the plastic T-piece with a more robust metal version like this (red dot).
