does the MAF plug have gaffer tape over it, you also state the MAF is unplugged, therefore it is a good chance the car as a MAF less map fitted, it certainly would not be the normal T4 160 REMAP. we saw this also at our last Nano meet on one of the owners cars, as luck had it the owner whom owned the car previous was present at the meet also and he kindly informed us that he had the car remapped with a mafless remap. It sounds like you have the same, it may have been done by someone in Manchester ? or elsewhere can you not ask the owner before if he as any information on whom did the remap. Are you getting any black smoke on kick down if so then that could be the reason as mafless remaps tend to blow black smoke, again we found that out at the Nano meet as a couple of cars were compared to the T4 160 and the mafless ones threw out black smoke.

Hi Ian.
Yes you can run your car on a MAF less remap it is just not what I would like to have on my car, as I do not want a black smoke plume coming out of exhaust every time I need to use the kick down or even accelerate to over take on the motorway, as said already by myself and a lot of members the 160 upgrade is the way to go, again this is my opinion. Having a mafless remap may not do any harm to the car but I am sure more knowledgeable people may tell you different ?

Bad MAFless maps kick out tones of black smoke or if for some reason the customer requests it.
Personally like to try and keep it cleanish, switching to MAP sensor fuel limitations helps. You can have the T4 map and an unplugged MAF sensor as it'll then use the default assumed values... |

HI Steve. Thank you for confirming that MAFless remaps can and are bad, but what I don't understand is why would anyone request that their car kicks out tonnes of black smoke as you say. I have witnessed this at our Nano meets therefore are you saying that the MAFless remaps on those cars were either bad remaps or the owner requested that they bellow out thick black smoke if you rev the car to 3,000, whereas if you rev a T4 160upgrade no such smoke.

Not all are. Remember theyre being done by different people so not all are equal...
For example you can have a MAFless one running cleaner than a MAF based map. All depends on the tune. Some like smoke (L series owners mostly) , other think it'll give more power as per the old phrase "no smoke, no poke" Again its not for me. |

It might not have a mafless remap. the MAF might just be disconnected if the MAF has failed, which would cause the car to lose power and be sluggish up to around 2.5k revs. As the MAF (a decent Bosch one) costs over £100, some just leave it disconnected. Try plugging it in and see if the car suddenly becomes sluggish under 2.5k revs.
