Pipe brake but rounded off
Hi,
I would like some help or advice. Unfortunately I have rounded off the nut in the brake pipe passenger side where it screws into the brake hose pipe. I am concerned in regard to having to replace the brake pipe as I can't see what it goes to into the engine bay. Has anyone had to fix this type of issue before. Thank you in advance of your replies. If the pipe does not need replacing, then leave it alone, if it does, the pipe needs replacing anyway so clamp the rubber hose and cut the pipe, it comes from the master cylinder to the union with the rubber hose.

I have just done this the nut was completely stuck I had to cut the pipe and use my Irwin nut extractor. The pipe goes to the ABS control module under the battery you have to remove the battery box and mounting. It's a moderately difficult job to bend the new pipe to shape and flare the ends. I think you can get the pipe already made up at a cost but still quite a fiddle to fit. You need quite a lot of tools to do this job. Are you absolutely sure it needs done? good luck |

I assume you are in the process of replacing this brake pipe when you’ve rounded it off.
Use mole grip type pliers to release it and obviously use new nuts for your new brake pipe. Fortunately the passengers side is the easiest of the two front brake pipes to replace as the drivers side goes along the bulkhead behind the engine then onto the ABS module. As you have to remove the battery tray etc I would advise you replace both as it's quite common on the 75/ZT to have corroded pipes just where they join the flex pipe. I once had one burst on me with no warning and it didn’t look that corroded so my advice is play safe and replace both. |

Many thanks for all your replies.
I was doing a full service of brakes and just couldn't get a decent purchase on it. Problem has been fixed now, I cut the pipe and renewed it. Difficult job but it's done. Also done calipers and replaced pistons on both sides. Now tackling rears.. |
