More space in centre cubby?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could increase the space below the centre arm rest, would it be worth trying to add some sort of raised arm rest?

By design it is already around elbow height, any change will make sitting in the driver's seat uncomfortable.

Why do you want/need greater storage in that location?
