I was a real pleasure to finally meet Brian on last years club trip to the Netherlands. He even found time in the hotel car park to connect up his T4 and pronounce my 75 as 100% fit! Which is more than can be said for me !

Wishing you and your family good heath and success in what ever you decide to do in the future.

Very sad news, I was kind of expecting that Brian might want some more time with his family, as if coronavirus has emphasised anything, it’s that family is everything.
Brian if you do read this mate, I’m grateful for all your help over the years and hopefully we will stay in touch beyond the forum.
You will be missed on here by many so if you feel like popping in don’t be a stranger
Mick

I must admit Brian has helped me in the past over some software.

He actually makes coming on here a worthwhile place to visit as his knowledge of these cars is unquestionably brilliant.

I do enjoy his banter with a variety of members who definitely deserved his Northern banter.

I am sure he will be sorely missed.

It's a shame if he really goes this time.

It's going to make it a whole lot more difficult to keep these old cars on the road without the likes of Brian.

A legend in the rover world, a genius with these cars and a genuinely top bloke. Was never too busy to help me or any of my customers let me give you an example.

I had a Mg Zt diesel auto in that wouldn’t start, went all around the houses for a few hours still no joy, I call Brian, tell him the story all the things I’ve checked and re checked..............he laughs and says something like “go to pin 6 on the ecu blue and grey/purple wire, it will have lost a live feed bla...bla bla

Cut a long story short. The cars running within 5 mins of me speaking to Brian on the phone.

Enjoy your retirement mate and thanks for everything over the years

The thing about "goodbye" posts is that they invariably cause flame wars, or comments like "I'm not going to ask cos it's none of my business, but what happened". etc. I've left forums over the years like a lot of us and I've just left, quietly, no announcement, no flouncing. And I've never returned.

But I have sometimes secretly snuck on and read what people are saying about me. I bet I'm not alone.

Dougie.

I've just logged on whilst on holiday in Spain, only to read this thread. To paraphrase John McEnroe, "YOU CAN NOT BE SERIOUS!". Sure, the club will go on, as it is by now the font of all knowledge on our cars...but to lose our star player? How did this happen?

Sad, sad day. No way to sort it out? I feel like my car is suddenly only worth half its value! How about we all "club" together and pay an extra fiver in subs, to be used to retain the services of those who give beyond all expectations for the good of the membership? We could hold an annual vote and distribute the dosh accordingly to those who have helped the most, as a token of our thanks and appreciation. Brian has supported the Club in so many ways, and has touched many members personally with his kindhearted knowledge sharing. It would be a sin to let that go to waste...

If rules need to be changed, where do we vote?
