hi to all
what dvd work on the mk4 dvd unit is it a dvd-r or dvd-r or both

Hi David, I'm not sure whether the drive accepts +r, -r or both, but from experience I've never had a much success with 'home-made' DVD's in the satnav unit, they either take a long time to actually load or they give read errors on loading, basically it'll load the map but after a while navigating the system will either freeze or you get the satnav equivalent of the 'blue screen of death' with an error that the disc is unreadable.

The only success I've had is with the genuine BMW or Navteq factory produced map discs, these are identifiable where the data side of the disc is silver, if the data side is a purple / violet colour this indicates it's a 'home-made' disc and these, in my experience give read errors, additionally there is also a school of thought that these 'home made' discs eventually damage the laser unit in the DVD reader (see the thread on this forum: https://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/i...v-disc.137965/ ) of course, your mileage may vary!
