What car after my Rover 75?

After 16 years and almost 250,000 miles of the wonderful Rover 75, I can see that old age (car not me) is soon going to make a replacement necessary. When the roof lining suddenly drops off, the gear knob comes apart in your hands and the door handle trims just drop off, the car is probably trying to tell me something!

My question is, what on earth could replace it? Any suggestions from all you helpful people?

Another one. That's what I did and my "new" one is older than the previous one but was lower mileage.

A Skoda Superb is an excellent car. I know a taxi driver who does 60k a year in then and has nothing but good to say about them. Plenty of goodies to be had in them just like the R75.

I've owned/operated over 30 cars in my time, my 75 tourer being the latest, and one of the best. If I had to choose something different, I would go back to my former Toyota Soarers (both were the twin turbo 2.5 litre models). Solidly built, great performance, big for a coupe. Even older than Rover 75, but a very satisfying car to drive.

Failing which, I would revert to my old favourite E34 M5 - another very well built car, though perhaps a tad expensive to maintain these days. Make sure the driver's window is clear, as you'll often be looking out of it whilst navigating...

With you all the way with that one. I had the Elegance spec' Superb estate. Real monster of a car, Really well built and enough toys to keep me happy without being over the top with silly things like electric tail lift (check out the price to replace the rams on that one). Thing went like a darn rocket with 175 under the hood. Sadly the short runs I do she just didn't come up to temp long enough, DPF would have suffered so she had to go.

There certainly are some good 'uns out there. I found a CTDI Club , one owner since new, FSH, with only 85k on it. Not even run in. Superb car.

Skoda superb gets my vote too. I replaced my daily 75 tourer with a 2017 superb estate after looking at many alternatives. It's the closest to a 75 I could find. So comfortable, toys galore and lovely ride quality.

I also like the Superb.

But, a Mercedes CLS is much more "British" and at least one step above the 75 in terms of refinement, power and ambiance.

Ditto modern Jaguars.

At the end of the day you're replacing one old car with another old car...

There are loads of nice cars available - it just depends on what sort of car you want.

I personally like Astra, Focus, new Insignia, Citroen C5, Mondeo estate, Renault Megane, Jaguar XE/XF, Mercedes E-class, BMW 5 series, Mercedes CLS.....

Then there are the dream cars - Jaguar XJ 575, XFR-S Sportbrake, CLS63...
