Default Another new arrival

Three weeks ago, this arrived...

A couple of months back, I was looking at cars, as you do...
I fancied something quite special but keeping within the MG Rover marquee. I learned of a ZTT in Typhoon potentially up for sale. A 2.5 V6 But, an auto...
A rare car in ZT form with all the toys - cruise control, heated seats, power fold mirrors, sunroof and the super rare red alcantara interior. It must be rare as I’ve had 5 offers for the interior already! He’s a very early one. No 4 of 45 ZTTs made in Typhoon. Rumour has it that it may of been a demo car for MG Rover, Wales but unsure...
I also acquired some spares with the car as precaution including both bumpers, a wing, steering wheel and some interior trim bits.

The previous owner has owned the car for 5 years but SORNd it when the MOT expired in March this year. The car was located down in Grantham, Lincolnshire so I had to also figure out a way of getting the car up here to Fife. It took several weeks to negotiate a deal to buy the car and to get it to me. In the end, I decided I wanted this car. It was a big risk as I had not seen the car in the flesh and also it had no MOT but took the leap. With the car being off the road for 6 months prior, it had a couple of things that needed attending - it needed a new battery as battery wasn’t holding charge. Two of the tyres weren’t holding air either so they would be completely flat when left overnight.
I got the car transported through a company based in the west of Scotland who I must say were absolutely first class. Fantastic service and they communicated throughout the process.

The car was collected from Grantham on the evening of 31st July and driven up here through the night. The car was kept with the transporter and I arranged to meet them to take delivery of my car on Tuesday afternoon after I had finished work. As I turned into the street, there he was.
I had a good nose around the car and made a little list of things that needed doing. I couldn’t drive it as it had no MOT or tax. First thoughts were positive. Bodywork is good but not great but I kind of expected that. Upon closer inspection, it appears that the roof may of been resprayed in the past badly. It’s lost it’s flip and is quite cloudy and dull and flat. It is a 16 year old car, too...I got the car insured the same day. The next day, a trip to ECP and purchased a new battery which was then fitted. Started the far up and the sound...Wow! The V6 does sound gorgeous helped by a stainless steel exhaust system. It sounds sweet as...

Later that day, I booked the car in for an MOT for the Friday. I was dreading it to be honest but I was glad when it only failed on a hand brake!
A few days later, I took the car back in to get re-MOTD and it passed once they had adjusted the hand brake. So, car is now fully legal. I also got the garage to seal the two tyres that were leaking air. It seems fine now and hold air fine. I also got them to adjust my exhaust back box as it was hitting off the trailing arm bush and it was doing my head in so that’s now been sorted.

Having now driven the car for a week now, it’s quite slow. I suspect the VIS motors are gone so I got in contact with our main man, Dave (Stocktake) and ordered a set of his uprated VIS motors. They should be here any day now so will fit those and hope they will make a difference. The car is very Smooth and drives nicely I think. Tracking needs correcting so will get this done in due course. Also, sunroof drains need clearing. Spring protectors will be fitted too as a precaution. In the long term, he will get a good service soon and I will treat him to a set of Apex wheels to replace the ghastly Hairpins... (Sorry, not sorry) And, in the next 2-3 months, I hope to have the roof resprayed and the car touched up.

In the meantime, here are a few pics.

Nice looking motor Rav

I reckon Straights would look better than Apexes though, as Mk2 wheels on a Mk1 look a little strange.

Be aware, there are only enough tinters to produce a maximum of 1/4 of a litre of Typhoon in the country at the moment, and you would need a little more than that to paint the roof.

Oh, and it's £1000 a litre

It can be ordered in from PPG Paints in Pittsburg, but again not cheap

Good to see you didn't book it in for a test and drive it home though

Funnily enough, those particular paint colours in the experimental stages were the responsibility of my friend, when he was in charge of the paint shop at Nissan.

I've had monogram paint from this seller before which is cheaper than £1k a litre.
