Default Seat Swap Question

The driver's seat on my 2002 MG ZT-T is knackered, the vinyl is dry and cracked both on the base and back. I think this is fairly usual.

I've found a passenger seat the same colour and I intend to swap the base cover onto the driver's seat. My question is can I swap the cover for the back as well? I think the stitching on the air bag side is weaker to allow the air bag to be deployed, if this is correct and I fit the passenger side back cover to the driver's seat the weaker stitching will be on the wrong side (as will the little air bag tag).

I find it hard to imagine that MG/Rover/BMW would have had different strength stitches.

What's the opinion of the forum on this proposed swap?

To be honest, it would be much better to source a seat cover of the same side.

It's not worth trying to fit a cover which was designed to fit the opposite side.

Hello Neil,
I don't suppose there are many scrap 75's over there in France. But we're coming up for the holiday season, maybe someone going to or through France on holiday could take a replacement seat over for you?
Try asking on the 'items wanted' or 'pony express' sections

Jim - Normally I'd agree with you but the driver's seats are IMPOSSIBLE to find, I've been looking for years. I've examined my seats and they do appear to be the same....except for the lumbar support adjuster.

Madeupname - You're right, my car's a ZT-T 160+ which was never sold in France (I imported it when we moved here). I thought it'd be easy to find a driver's seat here as it's their passenger seat but no luck. I'll the the wanted/for sale section on here.
