Default Online File Sharing

Hi,

Bit of a techie one this.

What I want is an online file sharing website where I can upload work to and the public enter a password to access it

I've looked at various ones including DriveHQ etc but they don't do this.

Any help?

Doesn't Google have a file sharing system?

Have a look at Windows Live Skydrive as well. 25 GB of free storage which you can have as private/public/photos.

Apple offer the MobileMe service which offers secure password-protected file sharing (both a private and a public folder) you can also synchronise email and address books etc accross various computers with the service. There is an anual fee but if you feel you need all the services then it's good value for money. Mac users get additiona benifits over Windows users (ie accessing your own Mac from another Mac)

I use a system called DropBox to share files between myself and a few collegues. You install the software then setup a folder on your pc which is the 'dropbox' the software then uploads it in the background.

http://www.getdropbox.com/

You get 2gb of space free and I think you have to pay for more, although you get a little extra for referring people to the service.

Following on Simons post.

http://www.apple.com/uk/mobileme/features/ Windows users catered for.

Firstly I am not a Mac evangelist, this is just FYI. Macs, Windows PC's, Linux, Unix, whatever system you run they will all pretty much do the same job. Apple Computers just do it more elegantly and more intuitively.

I've been working with Macs since 1986 and have been using Apples online services since their inception. The current Mobile Me is brilliant. However as with any online system there will be security issues. So I would not advocate storing any critical data or using the Cloud for back up. Although the encryption available is industry standard.

The current calendar pics are displayed on Mobile Me Gallery and the uploader is to the Public area of my 20Gb Cloud.

I'm not suggesting anybody rush to Apples site to sign up, just have a butchers and make your own mind up.

Edit:- 60 day free trial. Beware you will be hooked.

Thanks guys for the info

I've gone with a php based website (password protected), javascript to control the browsers and files hosted on dropbox although I may move them to secure controlled folders on the website.

Taught myself alot about about php today.. from nothing!

Much better job all together as you have complete control. Secure folders is the way to go. Just remember nothing is totally secure.
I have all those facilities and many more on a friends web /ftp/mail server. Also FOC
I use the me.com stuff for ease of use for the non technically minded. (Most of my clients.)

Oh and all the documents are web controlled .pdf's so I can shut them down whenever I choose and from wherever I choose. Doesn't matter where in the world the doc's are they shut down! Cool eh?

Thanks for the replies again
