I also fitted the inline thermostat, but found the temp gauge never went passed 7.30 apart from under load on the motorway. As soon as the load came off, the temp would drop and so would the MPG 34mpg!!!!! Rubbish.
So i have also replaced the standard thermostat!! so effectively running both, the motor heats up quickly in comparison and the gauge remains at the 9 O’clock position without fluctuation!!!

The most impressive part of all this was 51.3MPG on a very steady run home, 50mph for the most part.

I fitted a circoli inline stat last winter and saw almost no difference with to without. On figuring out how to get the diagnostic mode in place it was clear that the car still - albeit only slightly - running cold. I have just fitted a stat from DMGRS and it seems significantly better, albeit only on a short test drive, but I'd not seen 87 before.

Get the display into diagnostic mode, but I think you'll find as I did that your stats are both leaky. The one from DMGRS is obviously of much better quality.
Is the DMGRS stat also inline therefore easy to fit?

It's the same thermostat as the Renault 5 item, however is pre-ground down so you can pop it in the top hose easily. You'll need 2 Jubilee clips - one to hold the 'stat in the pipe, and the 2nd to re-secure the pipe to the water outlet from the engine.

It also doesn't seem to suffer the quality issues the cheaper thermostats have had, although I might just have been lucky. I've had one faulty out of 80-ish sold up to now.

It took me longer to get the unground circoli one out than it did to get Matt's in. To be honest I think grinding is unnecessary, but it does make it a marginally less brutal job.

Matt's thermostats are much better quality than the circoli item I tried before, and I'm now getting temperatures up to 89 although only briefly. It seems to stabilize at 85, rather than 79-80 like it was with the circoli.

Hopefully that will make a difference - it certainly has to the heater, it's incredible how much difference a few degrees makes.

Fingers crossed.
I may not be grinding them down forever, as some silicone lubricant (or equivalent) is good at getting them in too. It's more about the decent quality 'stats than anything else.

Let me know how you get on.

I got one of those and had exactly the same issue. I fitted a 91 degree 'stat as mentioned in the original thread about this part and all is fine now.
QH P/N for the stat is QTH107K from memory.
