So while all this is going on I'm reminded of some excellent Cold War films:

The Bedford Incident. Widmark and Poitier.

Fail Safe. Fonda and Mattau.

Ice Station Zebra. Hudson and McGoohan.

Strategic Air Command. Stuart and Allyson.

Will try and catch them before it all becomes real.

We should all be worried about what is happening in Ukraine. If the West gets dragged in, Putin may very well press the red button. He must be given a way out, where he doesn’t win but is able to say he’s achieved something. It’s a fact of life he’ll come out of it with some part of eastern Ukraine where there’s some Russians.

One should only worry about what one can do something about I was once told.

It will be what it will be.

Thanks for that. Just watched The Third Man for the umpteenth time. Anton Karas' music is magic. Tempted to buy and learn a zither. Somehow the B&W format makes it a masterpiece.

No problem mate. Must admit I've never watched The Third Man.

Those B&W movies of the era certainly do convey a certain atmosphere. Widmark, as the Captain of the Bedford, reminds me of someone in the news at present.

Sorry to read of your health problems, hope you are improving? If you need anything I don't think I'm too far away from you, just shout.

"On the beach" -Gregory Peck, Fred Astaire, Ava Gardener and others is the likely accurate scenario if someone pushes the button. Chris.S.

Hmmm, he was on his way towards that already (with the eastern states). But it is all to familiar of a certain Austrian and his attitudes.

You never know, someone may wave a bit of paper that gives some form.of 'appeasement', may give us 'peace in our time'. I certainly hope not, though, remember what occurred the last time that happened?
