Good luck !
I was looking for the oil pressure switch, when clutching at straws wondering where the leakage was from, but its sorted now - a the large O ring for the oil filter cap was displaced.

It managed to blow a pint and a half of oil out - just down to minimum on the dip stick, before I had it sorted, luckily I wasn't doing longer trips in the car.

My reversing light switch is playing up now - I fixed it a few years ago by skimming the hex down so it went a bit deeper into the gearbox. I have ordered a new one this time.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Check for the pcv in any case, as if it was blocked and pressure built up, that would be the weak point for it to leak from with pressure.

The oil filter seal should not get nipped, unless its been fitted to the wrong recess in the oil cap.

Few photo's below showing where the O-ring fits on the cap.

It as as been known for them to be fitted just under the head of the oil filter cap

Also smear with a little new oil before fitting the cap.

I think I will have to check on mine now. The upper recess is where it was when I did it the first time, and have fitted it there ever since. I always thought the next groove down was part of the thread, but cannot recall now.

HI Alan.
In these photo's you can clearly see a section where you can hook the O-ring off the cap

If you look inside the oil pot there is also a ridge where the seal sits when it as been screwed in, the flat edge of the cap them mates up with the top edge of the alloy pot.

Note the ledge which the O-rings seats on when top is screwed in and nipped up not over tightened

4

The upper recess shown here by the hooking tool is not the place for the O-ring seal.

If it is fitted there it is only a matter of time before it will leak, all owners /members it is worth checking.
