Default I think my Comet is now dead

Morning All

My Navall Comet device seems to have given up the ghost.
Switch and the buttons illuminate (no screen).
The CD player will accept and eject a disc.
That's it.
I've tried pressing and holding the reset button for 1 second, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, but no change.

So I'm probably looking for a new unit.
Are there any good and reliable DD units out there?
I see Julian no longer does his units (which looked like the RadioGuy ones, but I gather were more reliable?)
Maybe I need to go mainstream brand?
Maybe it's time to go single DIN. It'd be nice to have a large screen still and I do have a reversing camera.
That said the basics are FM, DAB and CD player
Oh and the reception for BBC Radio 4 ranged from terrible to not bad (just Radio 4 - other channels were ok - strange!)

Any advice/thoughts much appreciated

Andrew

Before you right it off completely, you may want to disconnect the battery for half an hour or so (or just unplug the head unit). This has been know to clear some seemingly terminal faults with these units.

It may not work in your case, but can't hurt to try.

I think you will find they were idential units

Xtrons appear to be most popular and reliable units (Both sold by radioguy and julian!) and i have to say i've had no issues with mine and pleased with it.
This is the unit i purchased

Fortunately only the housing of the units and the front are identical. The firmware on the other hand is not the same. Each A-grade OEM bakes their own firmware so the unit does what they want them to do.

There are a zillion units that have the same look and feel but have different software, which actually makes all the difference.

Besides that... xTrons has a decent support team that's able to help in case of problems.

Both Radioguy and Jubs ordered from the same supplier as i was informed by radioguy's uk agent in the last week or so and were identical units. He may be wrong but i doubt it.
Btw mine is an Xtrons unit supplied via Jubs.

This myth needs to be stopped.

The firmware is the same on both Navall and XTrons units. The customisation of the android build is however slightly different.
Although there's no concrete evidence, I'd strongly suspect that even though they come from the same supplier, XTrons units are the A-grade QC passes whereas Navall is B-grade.

What is your evidence that they're different?

As to mine...
Plenty of posts over on xda-developers, plus some of my own personal research. Both brands of units run on MTCD and the later MTCE branch of firmware.

They've also debunked the myth that you need to de/resolder components on the PCB to upgrade a Navall 3.

Default Dead Comet

OK so I tried a longer reset and then disconnected the car battery.
Neither option worked, so its time to replace with a major brand, perhaps Pioneer
