Hi.
Mine was bypassed after one of the metal hoses started to leak. I have no intention of reconnecting it. The engine runs perfectly. If Kaiser has no problems in the heat of South Africa without it then we will be absolutely fine.

Hello guys, bit late to the party also haha, can anyone explain a little what is involved in bypassing the oil cooler and how can this be accomplished? Are any new hoses or pipes needed to get this done or can the old ones be modified to bypass it?

Ditto.. I'm concidering doing the same thing.

Gonna fit an air cooled oil cooler . I have a spare Mocal oil cooler I was originally going to fit to my quattro.

By the looks of it my metal pipes on the zt 190 are quite rusty. So getting rid of those would be a good idea I recon.

My main concern would be how to close the loop between the oil pipes, and make sure there’s a tight seal.

You go to your local hydraulic pipe shop fitter. Bring the in and out pipe from the oil cooler/pump. Have them take the two in and out fittings for the pump off the existing pipes (or find new matching fittings). Fit the fittings on a approx 200mm long HP pipe, (re-inforced so you can bend it back 180 degrees, without it collapsing in the bend).
Fit the fitting fittingly to the oil pump, and the oil side is taken out.
If you have already disconnected the water side, you can remove the oil cooler.

(It is possible that it is no necessary to fit the pipe, and in stead just blank the holes, but if this is a full flow cooler, then it is necessary. I just fitted one to make sure I did not take a chance and it has worked fine for a couple of years.)

I am just considering bridging the water side as I am guessing that the oil cooler is the spot where the oil is getting inside the coolant and showing as mayo in my expansion tank, what is involved in bypassing the oil cooler just for the water side? Can it be done with the original hoses?

If you do have oil getting into the coolant at the oil cooler and only bypass the coolant side of it you'll still have an oil leak! You will need to bypass the oil side of it (no, not on it's own - that would leave you with a water leak!).

Tried finding a fit at the local fitting fitters, but they didn’t see it fit to find a fitting fitting for that fitting. Following frequent fitful ferreting, they found that the foregoing fitting would not fit found fittings or frequently frequented fittings. Either.

Well, that wasn't a very fitting fitting fettling outcome.
