Unhappy Rover 75 Club SE 2.0L petrol - Grating sound

Hi

When I start the car from cold there seems to be a loud grating type of sound ming from the bottom of the engine. It seems to go once the engine has warmed up. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Dave,

Is it a noise from moving parts hitting each other or more a metallic shake noise

I ask because if the latter I'd be looking at a loose undertray or the exhaust flexi pipe that couples the exhaust manifold down pipe to the exhaust system.

hth

Or maybe not

Best go and get it listened to by someone in the know, how far are you from Coventry and Lates?

Right, I've just had that nice man from the AA out and he has diagnosed that the bearing on the idler pulley on the auxilliary drive belt has gone. Don't think its too expensive but pretty urgent.

That's just what I was going to sugest Dave........

If it is a noise that appears constant then it will tend to be bearing-like so that end of the block is where I would go first.

Well, as least it's been diagnosed which is a positive step. Do you think you may be able to grab any pics of it being sorted out??
