Yes agreed - the point I was making was that an MOT failure doesn't cancel out an existing MOT.

A current MOT is valid until midnight on the day the MOT runs out. A failure before the MOT runs out doesn't invalidate the current MOT, but you could still be prosecuted under the Road Traffic Offences Act for using an unsafe vehicle on the road.

Further to my last post
We have now found the definitive Government wording for the 6 month Covid-19 MOT deferment. You can check this on https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavi...-30-march-2020

This is the relative point though if you are going to continue to drive your car

Keep your vehicle safe to drive
You must make sure your vehicle is safe to drive (‘roadworthy’). It can be unsafe even if your MOT expiry date has been extended.
Find out:
• how to check your vehicle is safe
• what rules you need to follow to maintain your vehicle
Get unsafe vehicles repaired
Take your vehicle to be repaired at the nearest open garage if it’s unsafe. These are allowed to stay open during the coronavirus outbreak.
You can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.
The best way to check if your car is safe during the 6 month period is to have the MOT done.

Default Do Your MOT

I took my car for its MOT yesterday and am happy to report it passed, so i now have another 12months certificate but as we all know it only states that it was ok on the inspection on that certain day.

Your car must be checked regular for it to be safe to drive, therefore do all your usual checks every weekend, tyres, lights, oil, water, and at least once a month get under the car and check it over too, change brake pads that are coming to the end, do a visual check all over the car, take care out there and be safe.
