Default I.p.k

I have recently acquired a second hand instrument pack with message centre is there any way of checking what mileage is on it , if I disconnect mine and connect this one can I do any damage ?? . The IPK was given to me so I thought it would be a good idea to play but dont want to damage anything .

I think the powers that be will confirm but I am sure I have read on the forum that s/hand IPK units are of no use to anybody as they cannot be matched to the car. I have also read that you should not drive your car without your IPK connected.

Best wait for conformation before you go ahead.

You can swap them over to fire them up and it will not do anything (usual disclaimers apply - I have done it a number of times with no problems) as long as you do not drive (I wouldn't even start up but that is just being paranoid!).

If you switch on with the "new" ipk in you will see the mileage on the donor IPK, but although everything would "work" with a 2nd hand donor IPK, the mileage will be incorrect, internally an "error" will be logged (when it is plugged to T4) and you might have odd things like "ERR" in the auto box - if your car isn't auto but the donor car was, etc etc.

If you can get the LSM from the same car I can code them both to your car but you will inherit the donors mileage so you would have to explain the discrepency on V5 or Mot if you sold the car.

Oddly I fitted one to my tourer the other day as I was hoping I could replace the obc display as it has a a few dead pixels and it came up without error showin 22,000 miles (Tourer has done 142k)

I would not risk driving the car though to see when Err appeared
