Default Brake Light Switch

I'm not looking forward to this today............. The guide I have read suggests that an 'n' shaped bracket is removed from the brake pedal to aid access to the switch. The one in my car is welded on, rather than bolted on!

What does this bracket do?
What are the implications if I cut it off and don't replace it? It doesn't seem to do very much!

Update. I have finally fitted the new switch, and the brake lights are still stuck on! Any suggestions?

Have you got the switch fitted correctly? It's actually a hall effect sensor and positioning is critical.
Also, have you checked fuse 13, I believe if it's blown the brake lights stay on.

Thanks for that - I didn't think to check the fuses! Unfortunately, it looks absolutely fine. I'm confident that the fit of the switch is OK, so I'm guessing just a wiring fault somewhere. A trip to my local garage required it would seem.......................

Default Where did you purchase the brake light switch?

As far as I know, only brake light switches from Rimmers will work as they should. Search the forum or read the threads https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=274137 and-or https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=241449

Please let us know how you get on, good luck.

I've ordered a genuine one from Rimmer Bros now, so hopefully that'll solve the problem. I don't like the way they add VAT on after you've confirmed the order though.......

I don't like the way they add stoopid postage costs for the smallest of items. Sprayed my switch with WD, but I don't mind the odd bodge.

Default Update

A quick update...………...I fitted the brake light switch received from Rimmer Bros, and the brake light operation has been fully restored!

I have to echo the comments already made elsewhere on the site. If you need a brake light switch, buy from Rimmers. It'll save you an awful lot of fiddling, backache and altercations with suppliers that refuse to accept that their part won't do the job!

Thanks to all that advised.
