Oh what to do
Looking like hgf on the v6.
So looking like 75 number 4 could be on the cards . The old girl let me down tonight for the first time . Has been losing coolant for weeks now. Yes all the stuff in the v is ok but was changed for new anyway. Now what sounds like the tappets are about to pop out has started . Vis was changed not long ago. But top end sounds bad. Tonight temp shot up to 116. Heater went cold . Got off the road and let it cool. Only a small amount of mayo in the cap but I only do at most to work 100 miles a week so I expect a little. Only odd thing is since putting in the new thermostat and new sender sensor it's only run at 88c .before that it ran at 93c .big drop in temp. So may start looking for 75 number 4 . |

Hi Bob.
Have taken it to a rover garage. They're saying headgasket. Cost is over a grand. Most garages round me will not touch it. May take it off the road and buy a runabout till its sorted. Need a car due to my work times. |

Hopefully you can get it sorted. Getting the belts replaced at the same time might be a money saver in the long run.

Just drove from work to home around 10 miles .
And temp was up to 103 and loads of pressure and lots of steam. So looking like hgf on the v6. That's going to hurt the pocket. |

It is worth getting another opinion, and some quotes for the job. There are some mechanics who travel and I am sure it would cost less than a grand.
Good luck. |

your not wrong hgf is rare.
have had one place already say its hgf but things didnt add up in my mind. car is still driving fine other than over heating and the pressure in the system. the pressure seems to hang around for a few days. |

I had places tell me mine had HGF due to coolant loss and sudden overheat, Turned out it was the water pump. Still expensive to replace but had it done an the rest of the car is sound.

If its pressurising the coolant it a good indicator it is HGF. Assume all hoses are rock hard after its been run for a while?
