Default air con

hi all,

am I right in thinking that if there is no gas in the air con system the air con pump will not kick in. car has been standing for around 5 years .

clutch turns ok but does not kick in.
fuse is ok
relay is ok.
the trinary switch will kick the cooling fan in .
and that red power wire is connected .
is it just worth having a regas and see what happens.

thanks all

steve

Yes, the trinary valve ensures that the compressor is deactivated by under-pressure as well as over-pressure.

Yes, have it serviced/refilled.

Steve; I strongly recommend that you seek a local specialist mobile company or sole trader to do this. Try to resist being enticed by the low prices at the fast fit chains. You get what you pay for.

I second that, some of these chains could do more damage that good.

Also don't presume it will just need a servicing and regas, after 5 years of non use the seals could have dried out and no amount of servicing, oil or gas is going to fix that. Don't be tempted to put any of these ''sealers'' in the system either, all they will do is gum everything up and rarely work more than a few weeks if at all.
