Easy to check if they work. Supply 12v and neg to the two wire plug they will open or close. reverse to polarity they will close or open.

Hi everyone:
For the gurus, on powerfold mechanisms. Yesterday my passenger powerfold mirror failed, the typical sound of broken gear teeth. I have an extra mirror for the driver's side and my question is, can I take out the extra mirror motor mechanism and put it on the broken passenger's mirror, will this work? Please let me know. Kind regards Joel Antonio

Hi Joel, yes that will work, and keep your spare to put new gears in, but you need to check for wear on the casing where the worm gear sits as it can get worn and then needs a shim making otherwise you will be back to square 1, as you have 2 motors use the best casing

Hi Rob:
Thank you very much for the information. I would like to know if you can point me to a good supplier of gears and if possible also get a new casing cover (where the gears and shafts are mounted). Best regards Joel Antonio

Right - having replaced the non-powerfold (disguised as a powerfold) switch pack with the correct item, I still don't have working powerfolds.
The door looms were replaced with powerfold variants, and when I press the powerfold switch I can hear / feel a relay (or something) clicking so I assume the switch pack is ok. I have to assume the looms are alright, being the correct ones, and I did put power on the Passenger mirror and test that one which worked so next... Check fuses? Although all other functions appear to work correctly. Is there a powerfold specific fuse? Put power directly on drivers side and confirm it definitely works, as even if the cross body loom has been removed, it should still work on it's own, if the switch and wiring are good? Does anyone know if the crossbody loom is a standalone loom, or, part of the main loom? I did notice a spare couple of connectors on the passenger side when I sorted the cruise control, and if it IS a standalone loom that can be removed, I would not be surprised if it has been. Other than that, I'm at a loss - the last time I retrofitted powerfolds, with the looms and door switch, it all worked first time. |

Hi Chris,
If you remove the larger of the two plugs from the switch pack, identify the orange and orange/red wires. connect these two wires to 12v pos and neg. If the loom is there and connected then both your mirrors will close/open. Reverse polarity and they will open/close ( just as you did when you tested the passenger mirror off the car) Fuses to check are Fuse 11 and Fuse 34 passengerside fuse box

Secondly, I have given 12v directly to the relevant wires on the connector, and both mirrors fold / unfold as they should. I've checked both fuses and they are also fine. I have to assume then, at this point, the switch pack is most likely faulty? |
