Thanks Rob – good to hear it wasn’t just me! Quote:
I don’t know if you found that the little vertical spindle was somewhat tight in the bottom locating hole…? I get what you’re saying about the motor maybe being weak, but to me it sounds like teeth are slipping, rather than nothing moving… sometimes… I suppose if you bought a motor, and maybe even another set of gears, from the same source as the case, it might all work together… Something like this - the eBay "garage" nonsense says it doesn't fit our cars, but I imagine it does... Quote:
Agreed about the lid… haven't really studied the case. Did you just swap the actual motor cage, or all 3 casing parts? I didn’t swap the bit with the toothed ring inside, as that looked like being a pain to remove – also didn’t seem to be worn. Quote:
Funny, I didn’t even know there were two different shapes when I bought mine – somebody on the forum advertised them, I bought them, and much later somebody else told me they weren’t “right” for my car – like you, now that I do know I prefer them anyway. Guess I’ll just bolt it back to the car and always park with the driver’s door facing out for now! Though to be honest, it’s starting to grind and jerk a bit now too

Okily dokily, I've ordered one like eBay no 112435568232. I asked them, and they said they believe them to be compatible with our cars.
My logic is that a complete set of parts (inc motor) from the same manufacturer are more likely to work properly together, but they said I could send them back if not. Watch this space…

Sorry, that's the item I actually bought - here's another one from the same vendor. I've also edited my post to show a valid number

Well, that made for an interesting weekend’s entertainment. Bottom line – the eBay kit above is indeed correct for our cars, but is so badly made that its parts don’t fit together.
The shank of the little upright spindle is a slightly larger diameter than the hole in the casing it’s supposed to go down into in the pic below. No rocket science involved, or room for misunderstanding; it simply doesn't fit - you wouldn't get it in with a hydraulic press... Think that’s all the cheap options disposed of now

Surely you can get a refund on it, especially if bought through E bay and thanks for warning others about this item.
I will still persevere with trying to fix mine and report back but last few days I have been replacing discs and pads all round plus handbrake shoes, and now have ABS issue, and low brake pad warning issues to resolve, so the mirror repair has moved down the " to do " list

No problem mate - I had that myself last year. Turned out to be rust particles around the rear n/s sensor, IIRC...
