you will really struggle to reglue a saggy lining.. i've tried all sorts..

you can use pins to create a quilt effect

Its the Sponge that has disintegrated.

the only real recipe is another liner board from another car which will be likely to fail as well due to the age.

or take out your liner and clean off all the old spronge and recover it with new material , loads about to chose from , but i've not found any that are a close match to OEM .

I've got the same problem and from what I can see, it's a real difficult problem to fix without removing the headlining completely, replacing the backing foam and then replacing, which is not easy at all.
Shame that

I tried fabric glue aerosol - too messy.

Pins - Fell out and difficult to smooth fabric successfully
Ended up with a staple gun, which did the job and you have to look really hard to spot the staples

How did you push the pins in?? straight or at an angle? I found the best way was as near horizontal as possible. That way mine have stayed in for years.

I used the pin method on a friends Golf, he wanted me to drive him about in which was a bit weird with the headlining draped over my ears! I wasnt sure whether it would work so wasnt too symetrical with the pattern, in hindsight, as it worked perfectly I wish i had been a bit more precise.
I worked from the centre line and worked outwards and used pins with pearl heads.
I wouldnt hesitate to do the same on my car if the need arose, who really notices the headlining, only the rear seat passengers really see it.

Great idea, so long as the staples are genuine stainless steel, as ordinary staples will rust, leaving unsightly marks.

I replaced the headlining on my R25 a few weeks ago. Pinning would not cut it! Figured if I was taking the card out, I’d better renew material which had no sponge backing left. Adhesive needs to be hi temp stuff to last. What I did on another site:
