Default How has spam gotten hold of details

Do motor insurance companies, sell, provide access to or give away information about their customers and their accidents?

Just received a spam email to my wifes email account with her name and date of accident. Very convincing e-mail but just a couple of things rang alarm bells.

The email seems to contain details of a number of other companies, one companies name, another companies phone number etc.

How did they find out about her incident?

Data is worth more than gold, yes it gets sold on, stolen or swapped between companies.

Askmid.co.uk

Motor insurance database.

They will hold the information, whether it came from.there or not, I do not know. You could send a subject data request to both them and the company who contacted you to find out more and maybe find out how they got your info.

It is not something I have done personally but they are legally obliged to provide with all the info relating do.you within a certain time frame (28 days rings a bell), and cannot charge more than 10 pounds for it.

Search google for subject access request
