They obviously don't know what they are doing - if the ITP fails then as long as you have enough fuel in the tank to cover the top of the ITP the car will run fine on just the UBP.

I suspect under bonnet fuel pump or crank/sensor. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Crank sensors usually break down over time and can stop the car whilst running it. An example is the car starts fine in the morning you drive 7 or 8 miles to the supermarket and when you come out it wont start. Rev counter does not move when you turn the car over. Leave it half an hopur and it starts again. Ive been to a few jobs where the bloke works 10 miles away and after 9 miles the car breaks down! Half an hour or so later once the sensor is cool it fires up and away he goes.

It has been seen before where the engine cuts out, and fails to restart afterwards.
All the fuel pumps run, giving the impression of a fuel pump failure. If there is an electrical reason, (such as an intermittent lack of power to the Canbus from the under-bonnet fusebox), the injectors will not fire, and the car will not start. BigRuss, Marinabrian, and Madamoiselle Colvert have seen the problem repeatedly before on my car, 'Perseverance', and others. There were no other symptoms. TOAF identified the problem. https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...0&postcount=23 You could try CB750Chris and his T4, if you are coming back via Portsmouth. You could try removing an exterior bulb, and see if the bulb failure warning appears, as Canbus errors may stop the bulb failure warning working. Last edited by MarkS; 25th March 2022 at 06:24.. |

Firstly, apologies for not coming back sooner. It has been a busy time with hire cars, hotels, travelling etc.
I would like to thank everyone for their support, ideas and suggestions. They have helped me to keep going. I have finally convinced the French breakdown service, after submitting a formal complaint, that the only way my car is going to be fixed is for them to repatriate it back to the UK. As France is very much a paper-based nation, I have been quite busy putting all the formalities together. We are probably 90% there so things should be moving in the right direction soon. My car will be going to WH Brand near Spalding, who I have used to service and repair my Rovers over the years so I know it will be fixed properly. They say it should take about 10 to 14 days to deliver my car so, when I find out what the problem is, I will add to this post because, if I were you, I’d like to know what was actually wrong with it. Watch this space and thanks again. |

Try disconnecting the white 12 way connector, hidden on the underside of the engine fusebox. Clean the contact for the thin yellow with blue wire. This provides power for the k bus, and has been known to make intermittent contact

The garage have diagnosed that the in-tank fuel pump is at fault. Due to my situation at the moment I have to make the decision, whether to have the repairs carried out or let her go.
I have been considering what I would do with my Rover as I do not really need her anymore. We, my wife and I, are moving to France soon and repairs there would be difficult at best. Also I have sold my house in England so I would have nowhere to store her while the conveyancing goes through. I really do not have the time to organise or advertise her therefore she will be going to the vehicle breakers at the end of the week. Shame as she only has 85000 on the clock, no rust, recent tyres and MOT to Feb 23. She did have a little bang at the back (all repaired), before I bought her and was a salvage car. We have recently bought a motorhome and should be picking it up in the next few weeks also, it seems, that the Citroen Belingo is the most popular car used in France therefore we will probably get one of those. I do have a Vauxhall Agila (yes I know) that has been handed down through the family which we are using at the moment to get around. So there we go, sad but that's the only way I can go forward as I do not need the worry of any future breakdowns. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions over the weeks and I wish you all well. |
