Side light bulbs, are there more than 1 size?
Strange one this,I had a front sidelight bulb blow earlier this week, so ordered two new ones, that are supposed to fit my car, they arrived today so I had a go at fitting them, there the white body type, Thing is this, they don't fit, the bulb is larger than the receptacle it plugs into, At the moment its running LED lights, so ive taken down the part number of the light and ordered two more using that part number, mines an 2003 pre facelift, did the type of bulb change between the last few non facelift, and the facelift models ?

You need T10 bulbs for the sidelights, if you are using led's source some CREE bulbs. They are the best quality available and will fit the mk1. I don't believe there is any difference between pre and post facelift types as far as the sidelights are concerned.

A new set of T10's turned up yesterday, and this time they fitted, yipee!!
job wasn't to bad, i managed to fit them from above, the drivers side was easy, just pull the rubber cap, pull out the fitting, it came straight out, changed the bulb, plugged back in easy, The passenger side though, was harder, got cap off, and for some reason, the headlight wiring was trapped with the wires from the sidelight, In the end, i was able to untangle it all, and got the sidelight unit out, fitted the new bulb, and turned light on it works,, refitted it, no sidelight, took it back out, played with the bulb, and it pushed in a bit further this time, both lights now working, plugged it back into the headlight, this time very carefully, to ensure nothing moved, and voila,2 working sidelights |
