Unhappy CDT - Strange Sequence of Events

Well I think I need a new crankshaft pulley but getting to that point was a bit odd.

Used car normally all day and parked up. Got back in started normally but then when turning left out of the bay:
  • Engine stalled
  • Low oil pressure warning light came on
  • Re-started engine
  • Charging fault light came on
  • Managed to drive off but steering very odd, as if losing power assistance at times
  • Drove home gingerly with charging fault and power steering issues
Car started today without any warnings but extra clatter that I am taking to be the crankshaft pulley issue.
I do not see how all this can be connected but can someone else make sense of this?

Thanks

Power steering pump and alternator are driven by the aux belt off the carnkshaft pulley. If the belt is slipping due to a faulty crank pulley, the pump and alternator may only be driven intermittently.

As is the water pump!

Sounds like rubber bonding on the pulley has broken away around the bolt. You should see whats happening at idle.

Remove the serpentine belt and check that your water pump pulley hasn't partially seized. If it is OK then check all the other pulleys for roughness.

It's all connected and you definitely need a new crank damper.----Have fun fitting it. Special spanner and big long steel bar.---

Worth investigating before buying a new crank pulley. Failed water pumps can make a very similar clatter, and something is slowing the PAS pump and alternator, and that won't be the driving pulley. And if the engine stalled due to the fault, likely something is partially seizing, and again, that won't be the crank pulley.
