Clutch Replacement
Hi Guys, My clutch pedal hit the floor with no resistance yesterday after coming back from a 100 mile journey.
There was strange noise, I can't really describe and then the clutch pedal went when I was about to garage it for the night. I have an 05 MGZT-T from new and has been a great car. It's done over 179K miles. Contacted DMGRS and they consider it likely to be the slave cylinder as this is the most common, and they were amazed I'd lasted this long in a diesel that they think is renowned for killing clutches around the 70-80K mile mark. I guess a complete clutch and master slave cylinder change would make most sense. I'm in Biddenham, 4 miles west of Bedford. I used to contact Phil T4, but I understand Phil is in full time employment now. Can anyone kindly suggest someone in the area that might tackle the job and what approx cost may be? Regards Larry - Id did inspect the master cylinder by the pedal box from under the drivers footwell, and that was leaking, but DMGRS indicated that the failure may not be due to that alone, and the master cylinder by the foot pedal may have been weeping for some time. I would not say that the diesel kills clutches, it's more the case that these days there are some poor components being sold which do not last. Nevertheless, 179k is a great mileage for the original clutch.
Personally, I would have the master, slave, clutch plates and the guide tube replaced by a competent mechanic familiar with clutch changes on our cars with LuK parts and then look forward to a trouble free life of the car. In fact, this is exactly what I have now done twice now with two 75 CDTs and has worked out very well.

if the master is leaking, change that, bleed the system and see what happens.

Get a mechanic with interest in our cars to have a look, don't rely on a telephone diagnosis, good luck.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Lee Tyndall has offered his help and will be looking into what parts are needed and logistics to do it at my home.
