Interesting how we now have numerous sections of society announcing who/what they are and that everyone should take note, treat them differently but the same.
The only attributes, for want of a better word, I'm concerned about is that folks are polite, respectful, kind, helpful and any othe positives. Other than that let's get on. |

Seems ridiculous to offer it but my definition of a word I used is:
'A fanciful or humorous appellation: a nickname'. I'd be interested to learn what other might be used as this one was apparently particularly attractive to the relevant lobby. Now it seems it can't be used for fear of giving or taking offence. What an appropriation, QED. One could go on....

That's great, but this thread is not about you. I think post #2 answers the original point very well. People should read the life story of Alan Turing, or atleast a summary of his life story, to understand how society treated LGBT people not very long ago.

I seem to remember something about Shackleton going out and maybe out for some time, but he also said this:-
“I heard one man say, "Cook, I like my tea strong." Another joined in, "Cook, I like mine weak." It was pleasant to know that their minds were untroubled, but I thought the time opportune to mention that the tea would be the same for all hands and that we would be fortunate if two months later we had any tea at all. It occurred to me at the time that the incident had psychological interest. Here were men, their home crushed, the camp pitched on the unstable floes, and their chance of reaching safety apparently remote, calmly attending to the details of existence and giving their attention to such trifles as the strength of a brew of tea.” ― Ernest Shackleton I do love a good cuppa! Especially when I am out!

The old saying of "Where's there's muck, there's brass" (money). 'Where there's a preference, there's a monetary award'. It's big business now and could soon be cited for % of GDP ;-) Kev Last edited by torque2me; 7th June 2022 at 17:33.. |
