Default Fuel guage

I'm not convinced the fuel guage is reading correctly so I used the test function and got the attached reading.
Any ideas?

Hello Simon,

I don't think there's anything wrong with your fuel gauge. The two tank senders are wired in series so it is impossible to have separate readings as the IPK diagnostics guide suggests (its source is BMW cars I understand).

You appear to have a total of 33.1 litres in the tank which is about 7.3 gallons so your gauge should be showing approximately half full.

Cheers Simon

It's an odd one I left home and the tank read below half and got home and it had risen to 3/4

When I can afford too I will brim it and see what happens

I've noticed that the IPK algorithm appears to take account of rate of consumption as well as tank contents. When low on fuel after a cold start my warning light is on then, after driving a short distance, the light extinguishes and the gauge needle rises slightly. I must agree though that from below half to three quarters is a huge difference and not consistent with the 33.1 litres reading.

That said, fingers crossed my car has found a way to reproduce petrol - I could save a fortune lol

I think it's the computer trying to get its act together.--My wife's Citroen does exactly the same thing. When she drives she drives quite hard. I don't. I can come back after a half hours run with the gauge showing more fuel than when I left home.---

The car rewards me for being gentle with it.---
