SatNav draining the battery
Hello chaps!
Thanks to this invaluable forum and wise answers within I was advised that the possible culprit might be the satnav in the boot. I'd guessed so because the car being standstill and power off both satnav leds were stubbornly on. It's the first time that it happens since 5 years and I'd just completed a week trip 520 km far from home. Fortunately never during the trip the battery had drained. The problem happened just coming home. As the car is garaged bonnet up and the battery immediately connected to a permanent charger, I saw at once that the charger wasn't able to complete the cycle and I was puzzled by that satnav still on. Hence I took off the satnav and testing the charge I saw immediately it was progressing again when previously it had difficulty to keep on. And the satnav was warm. But even I don't use that old satnav (with the 2014/2015 maps I've tried to get for free), it was in good order thanks to a previous good job I've done years ago (mixing a compatible BMW mechanism - the original Rover one was out of order - with the genuine Rover board). What could I do now: putting it back hoping the problem will not occur again? Find another one? Where exactly lies the problem: in the satnav itself or in the dash? Thanks a lot.

I've reconnected the SatNav.
No more drain now, things are back to normal. Wait & see...

Talking about satnav.
Is there a 2022 or thereabouts disc for our satnavs?

The last release was done in 2014/2015. I found all the disks (the whole Europe i.e. 7 or 8 disks, we have 2 for France, North & South) on the web for free. You've just to register but I'm unable to tell which website. I guess it can still be found out.

Once more that infamous boot SatNav was draining the battery and being warm.
I took it off definitely. And given my fanciful 6 CD changer, I'm thinking of swapping for a modern digital radio with SatNav, Bluetooth and the like but a fully compatible one with my antenna & wheel commands. Any idea? Price isn't a problem. I know that matter had been discussed several times, but I can't find anything simple & straightforward. A good link would be nice. Thanks.

I've got an Xtrons unit which I'm quite happy with. It came with its own aerial (antenna) which I've located up under the dashboard. Fitting wasn't so easy, I got the top half flush but the bottom bit stuck out a couple of mm until I removed the ATC panel, then it was easier to align 100%.
Here's a link to one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234599011...Bk9SR9ybyLbnYA Keep well ps. My steering wheel controls operate as they should, but required splicing to the existing loom and then setting up using the commands within the Xtrons unit |

Thank you Mike for tip & link.
But I would like a fully compatible SatNav, i.e. which the actual antenna could fit in nicely without any addition and without any compromise with the steering controls. I know, I know, I may look a bit stiff in my requirements but as I'm to do it myself I don't want to fall in an awful mess with all apart and nobody at hand to help!

Quite alright Arnaud to be "stiff with your requirements" but I'd imagine you'll be searching for a very long time for a unit capable of using your existing shark's fin, and would have to run a cable from the dashboard into the boot where I guess your existing aerial lives(?).
You can keep your shark's fin one on the roof and use the much more modern Xtrons' one hidden up behind the dashboard. It wasn't that hard to splice two wires into the Xtrons' harness to get the steering wheel controls working, and there are probably YouTube videos to show you how to set up the controls although I found things pretty self explanatory once in the programme. Good hunting ps There is of course the BMW DVD upgrade but even that's a bit ancient these days Last edited by vitesse; 14th September 2022 at 14:14.. |

BTW as you may see on another thread - https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=317803 - I've made the jump for an Erisin ES8788B 8.8".
I appreciate the large screen. But how will be the swap, stay tuned... Thanks a lot.
